Some
advantages of becoming
a paid-up member
1.
To ensure
that the CRA remains an authentic and powerful representative body
able to deal with a community problem, presented to and followed
through with the correct authorities for speedy and positive
attention.
2.
To have
access to a legitimate and impartial source to which you may voice
your opinions on how you would like your suburb to be improved to
meet your personal interests and needs.
3.
No need to
waste so much of your personal time and energy in complaining about
things to the seemingly "correct" authorities with a
single small "voice"!
4.
To receive
the regular monthly electronic CRA Newsletters giving you the very
latest on what is happening in your suburb. Many of these are
security "stop presses" which provide you with
"hot" security news and security advice.
As a resident or local businessperson you have a right to know what
is going on in your suburb.
5.
Knowing
that you are contributing to the positive growth of your suburb in
armchair comfort through your paid-up membership.

How is the money used?
The subscription fee is the life blood of the CRA.
Among other things the income derived from fees is used for:
·
Printing costs - eg for the Crier, AGM papers, debit order
forms, special notices etc
·
Town Planning and
Development - to appeal a decision by the
City Council costs money. Complex cases may need the services of a
lawyer and/or town planner. The CRA engaged a town planner to work
on the comprehensive documentation required to submit the Craigpark
LDO to the Council.
·
Environmental projects - eg river clean ups, pavement competitions
·
Communication - charge
for hosting the CRA web site; charge for bulk emailing the CRA
newsletters; posters
·
Administrative expenses - eg hiring the School Hall for the AGM and
providing refreshments; phone calls; office consumables;
advertising; publicity material; gifts
·
Special projects - eg before the Domestic Watch programme was put on
hold, the CRA provided financial support; providing certain
guarantees for the Community Security Scheme.
Thanks to residents who give their time and
expertise, we have not yet had to pay for services such as an
accountant/auditor to maintain and approve our financial statements
or a company to manage the debit order system (this could have cost
as much as R30 per subscriber). A resident developed the web site at
no charge. Up until now the CRA has in the main relied on volunteers
but it may well become necessary to employ an administrator on a
part-time basis. Such a commitment would mean that the CRA would
have to be sure that a required minimum amount was available
annually through prompt and reliable payment of subscriptions.
...all this for the cost of just one dinner out for
two!
Thank you for subscribing!
We believe
that membership is a very good investment indeed!
