CID Benefits
The benefits of a City Improvement District

The diagram below illustrates the potential benefits of forming a CID and gives examples of services that can be offered, depending on the priorities set by residents.

A Craighall/Craighall Park CID may want to invest in –

Security:

·          Branded vehicles patrolling public space

·          Armed response back up from central control room

·          Public Safety Ambassadors with hand-held radios

·          Branded cleaners in high traffic areas and regular cleaning blitzes

·          More boomed off areas/access control from Jan Smuts/William Nichol

·          Domestic Worker Training Programmes

·          Mounted patrols in the suburb and along the spruit

 

Public space maintenance:

·          Collecting rubbish

·          Removing litter

·          Removing graffiti

·          Washing side walks

·          Cutting grass

·          Trimming trees/planting trees

·          Landscaping public places

·          Improving pavements/providing kerb stones

·          Improving the main entrances to the suburbs

·          Introducing a comprehensive plan for the management of Delta Park (eg cycle paths, litter traps, picnic amenities)

 

Community development/ Working with community organisations

·          Primary Health Care clinic

Benefits of such forms of improvement

·          Approach is holistic – all issues impacting on the area are dealt with on an integrated basis

·          Safety, cleanliness and economic vitality of the node is enhanced

·          Encourages investment

·          Creates a positive identity for the area

·          Offers private sector management and accountability

·          Effectiveness of the improvement district is measurable

·          CIDs monitor any major development or interventions that impact on the area

·          CIDs have effective working relationships with appropriate bodies or associations

·          CIDs are in a position to put forward or spearhead ideas for change to Council
