CRA COMMUNITY SECURITY SCHEMEOverview and background At
the request of residents the CRA undertook to investigate the
implementation of additional security for Craighall and Craighall
Park. A number of security companies were interviewed and it was
decided to select SAS and ADT. For
maximum benefit it was agreed that six additional patrol vehicles on
a 24/7 basis were needed for the area. To achieve this, a target of
at least 550 subscribers was set, be they households,
complexes/sectional titles or businesses. This
target has not yet been reached but partial implementation of the
Scheme took place wef 5 March 2007. It
stands to reason that the more patrol vehicles we have, the more
secure our suburbs will be. If you haven’t yet subscribed, don’t
you think you owe it to your family and community to join up?
We’re all benefiting from the Scheme but if you’re not paying
for it, is it fair to expect others to do this for you? What
we want to emphasise is that blanket security coverage of our
suburbs is going to be the most effective way of monitoring
suspicious activity and preventing
a potential crime before it
takes place. How to join 1.

per single household, pro rata amount for
businesses/complexes. How it works Whichever security company you may use, think of the Security Scheme as offering us integrated and enhanced security cover for our two suburbs. The armed response vehicles which arrive when a home’s alarm or panic button is activated are reactive. The patrol vehicles, by moving around constantly and checking on suspicious activity, are proactive. ·
24/7
continuous patrolling, covered by a sophisticated tracking system
(offered by both ADT and SAS). ·
6 x
Patrol Vehicles, equipped with eg cell phones, handcuffs, pepper
spray, spotlights, 2-way radios (linked to area patrol and armed
response vehicles) – full implementation when sufficient
subscribers. ·
The ADT vehicles are equipped with a dedicated cell phone:
all those who subscribe are given the cell phone numbers. Any
subscriber can phone if, for example, they think they are being
followed; see suspicious activity; or want to be met at their
driveway. ·
Homes
of subscribers are identified by a membership plaque. Where possible
subscribers will be given preference in an emergency. ·
At no
further charge, an “escort” service and car guards for functions
where vehicles are parked in the street will be provided by ADT for
subscribers to the Scheme. ·
2 x
guard huts, to be used as meeting points/bases. ·
Able
to call on seven additional vehicles from other nearby territories
if required. ·
ADT
and SAS work closely with the Parkview police and the CRA exec,
thereby ensuring blanket coverage for the area. Guards will
endeavour to familiarise themselves with all residents and domestic
staff residing in the Craigpark area. Their brief will include
monitoring loiterers, potential squatters, suspicious pedestrians
and vehicles. They will inspect vacant plots and park areas. The CRA is monitoring the effectiveness of the plan through regular
meetings with the security companies and from feedback from
residents. WE APPEAL TO EVERYONE TO JOIN UP AND TO SPEAK TO FRIENDS AND
NEIGHBOURS TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY KNOW OF THE BENEFITS.
Our families and property values are at stake. For more information contact Eric Glover (if you live in Craighall) or Mike Wilmot if you’re in Craighall Park.
