CRA Special Newsletter

January 2007

www.cra.org.za

Welcome to 2007 and may it be a prosperous, rewarding and crime-free year for everyone. In that regard CRA exec members, Mike Holgate, John Turpin and Peter Heritage, have continued to put a great deal of time and effort into further security plans for our area. We have already sent out a detailed letter from John but the purpose of this note is to keep the matter at the forefront of your minds and to provide clarification on certain points.

CRA “FIGHT CRIME” PLAN REVISED January 2007

Our sources indicate that crime in our two suburbs has not been reduced in any meaningful manner. We also know that the police view communal involvement to be crucial in addressing the problem of crime.

To summarise, the renegotiated deal with ADT is:

·         The fee of R182 a month is only for 12 months in the first instance. You need only renew your subscription if you think the security initiative has been effective.

  • Any existing or new ADT client will have their ADT monthly charge capped at R500 when they join the scheme. Note: SAS (now part of Top Security) have already introduced a 24-hour response vehicle and will supply more if a sufficient number of householders wish to sign up with them.
  • The CRA will not spend a cent of your money until there are sufficient numbers to support the plan – we need a minimum of another 350 residents to sign up. As there are over 1600 households in our area this seems an entirely feasible goal.

·         The ADT communal plan will allow for six dedicated armed response 24/7 vehicles between the two suburbs (this would be increased if more than the minimum number of households sign up). Seven additional vehicles from other nearby territories can be called on if required.

  • The officers concerned would be a higher grade than originally contemplated and they would be patrolling continuously, covered by a sophisticated tracking system.
  • There will be 2 huts, one in Craighall and one in Craighall Park, mainly as a focus point for administrative and marketing purposes for ADT officers and CRA members.
  • Increased support for special requests such as car guarding, escorting etc.

We are sure that the benefits of this complete security coverage, linked to an efficient and sophisticated communication system, are likely to be extensive.

Remember - the launch date for the new project is now set at March 5th, 2007. With your ongoing support this will happen – we don’t intend to quit when our family’s lives and property values are at stake.

If you haven’t yet signed up, please complete the debit order form as soon as possible. (Attached to our previous newsletter and also downloadable on line.) Completed debit order forms can be given to any member of the CRA Executive but the easiest will be to drop them off with Mike Holgate in Craighall Park at 16 Beaufort Avenue (mholgate@mweb.co.za , 082 864-1400) or Roly Meyer, 45 Talbrager Avenue, Craighall (rolymeyer@mweb.co.za, 011 442-6801) or John Turpin, 17 Portland Avenue (jrturpin@mweb.co.za, 011 325-4547).
