April 2008

River clean-up

Just to remind you – from 09:00 onwards this coming Saturday 19 April the river clean-up takes place. We’re focusing on the part from the Jan Smuts bridge through to the waterfall area. You can park (i) in the car park adjacent to Fratelli’s; (ii) in the lay-by area parallel to Jan Smuts, opposite the garage; or (iii) at the very end of Waterfall Avenue. Thanks to City Parks and other supporters such as Caxton and Eltec Properties, gloves, bags and refreshments will be supplied. For information, email Chris Taylor or phone 083 294-5845.

AGM

Diarise Thursday 8 May, 19:00 for 19:30 at Craighall Primary School (not a “load shedding” night, fortunately!)

We’re delighted to announce that our guest speaker will be Clem Sunter. His topic will be “The world and South Africa in the 2010s – latest scenarios”.  It will include trends in urban management with specific reference to Perth and Brisbane where Clem was invited to participate in city management seminars. Should be interesting.

City Improvement District public meeting

Another important date to diarise – Thursday 15 May at 18:00 at Craighall Primary School.

We hope that all property owners have received the hand-delivered information sheet and survey form. If not, either contact Bianca de Roland Phillips (083 390-7194) or Amy Allen (083 443-4690) or go to our website, www.cra.org.za and click on “CID”. The survey can be completed on-line. We’ve had a good response thus far but we urge everyone to complete it – YOUR views will form the basis of the CID plan.

We will be sending you more information prior to 15th and from now on will send separate newsletters for CID matters.

We now know that 15 May is a load shedding day, but as the School Hall is not always readily available, we will stick to this date. We’re sorting out a generator etc and ADT security outside. We suggest that you bring a torch, a thermos flask or a bottle of wine and, in true South African style, we’ll just get on with it!

2008 subscriptions

Thanks to everyone who has paid their subs – but if you haven’t yet done so, don’t delay- at less than R20 a month it’s not expensive but is vital for funding projects, in particular the CID project where we are obliged to follow certain procedures that cost money… The subs form is downloadable at http://www.cra.org.za/index.cfm/p/pages.subscription-form.htm.

Security

The CRA is supportive of the initiative by a group of Craighall Park residents who have approached CSS Security with a view to using their services. However, the CRA’s main concern is that the only effective solution is one that is suburb-wide. We have been working on such a solution and hope to give you feedback shortly.
