CRA
Newsletter The world is divided into people who do things and people who get the
credit. Try, if you can, to belong to the first class. There’s far
less competition. 1.
SECURITY Although Parkview police figures reflected fewer incidents for our
area in March, many of you will know that April has not been a good
month. It may be cold comfort to know that within the Parkview
Precinct, ours are not the worst affected suburbs. The CRA Executive empathises with any resident who may have been a
victim of crime and, in particular, extends sincere condolences to
the family and friends of the two residents who lost their lives in
tragic circumstances. Apart from maintaining close contact with the Police, the CRA is
also holding discussions with security experts. We intend exploring
workable and affordable projects to bolster security in our suburbs. The community policing project continues. Thanks again to those
residents who are participating in this project. The Parkview CPF has issued further security tips, mainly in regard
to housebreak-ins. These have been added to the existing pages on
the CRA website – the info can be accessed direct from the home
page – simply click on “personal safety tips” or go to www.cra.org.za/tips.htm. An
ongoing reminder – report any suspicious persons in your street or
in your vicinity to the Police - use 10111 when making
contact with the Police. 2.
2006
AGM The
date was advertised in the latest Crier – Wednesday 21
June, Craighall Primary School, 19:00 for 19:30. Security
concerns will be given a focus and report backs will therefore be
kept short. Senior Superintendent Moodley has confirmed that he will
attend. Thank you to residents who have already responded. On board we already have Dr Rolly Meyer and Bianca de Roland-Phillips to assist with the burgeoning town planning portfolio. Peter Heritage is to handle the Traffic portfolio. Emma Morris has also volunteered. At the May Executive meeting responsibilities will be finalised and we will immediately put contact details on the website and also advise you in the May newsletter. 4.
TOWN
PLANNING There
is a feeling that our suburbs are under siege from grasping
developers who seem hell-bent on submitting applications for
developments on 500 sq m. The CRA was shocked when such a
development in Waterfall Avenue was recently approved by the City
Council. We are prepared to spend a significant sum of money to
fight this development and are in the process of engaging suitable
professionals to assist us with our appeal against the Council
decision. 5.
AND… talking of money…. We’re
pleased to report that there has been a significant response to our
annual subscription notices. We know that a number of residents
traditionally pay their subs at the AGM; since this is scheduled
later this year than in previous years, we would urge you to pay
before this date. Thank you. (See banking details at the end of this
newsletter.) Thanks for your interest – and thanks too to the many
residents who have already paid their 2006 subscription fee. Banking details
