A serious message from John Turpin

Only as a community working together can we reclaim our streets…

The CRA newsletter is normally sent to some 800 of the approximately 1900 residents and businesses in our area. The CRA’s hard copy publication, the “Crier”, is hand delivered to all residents.

There is something really disturbing that in spite of publicly-voiced concern about crime in our area, only 270 residents/businesses/complexes have signed up for the Community Security Scheme. What about the other 1630 – this could be your neighbour - or YOU!

The CRA’s Security portfolio is stronger than it has ever been. At the AGM in May 2007, residents Richard King, Mike Wilmot, Eric Glover and Philip Bond came forward to play an active role in ensuring that the Security Scheme will become one of the best in Joburg – but we won’t achieve this without your support.

I would like you to know that the implementation of the Security Scheme has already made a difference. Long may that continue but before we count our chickens, we need at least one further patrol vehicle and even this doesn’t meet our original goal. Right now, there is a monthly shortfall on the cost of the existing patrol vehicles and if this continues, we are going to have to reconsider how to run the Scheme.

This is therefore a very urgent appeal to you to support this initiative – it is in your interests, in the interests of your family and in the interests of your property values.

Let me reiterate – the Scheme is starting to work, especially the innovation of the patrol vehicles being contactable by cell phone (but of course, only by subscribers). We’re all benefiting from the Scheme but if you’re not paying for it, is it fair to expect others to do this for you?

We are aware that there are some senior residents on a fixed income who find the additional R182 per month a problem: in such instances, each case is considered on its merits. ·         complete the ADT addendum form if you are already an ADT client and fax it to 011 444-4564. Downloadable from  www.cra.org.za/ADT_addendum_form

·         complete the CRA debit order form (www.cra.org.za/debit_order_form.pdf)

for any other form of payment (if not paying by monthly debit, delete that section and indicate method of payment, eg one-off payment). Please either fax completed forms to 011 325-7160 or email a scanned version to wendym@creativecoms.co.za.
