Welcome to CRA

A very warm welcome to the Home Page of the Craigpark Residents' Association

We regard the suburbs of Craighall and Craighall Park, established some 100 years ago, and still well known for their convenient location, amenities and quality of residential life, as a very special part of Johannesburg.

A community only thrives, however, if its residents are active in its affairs. The CRA, formed over 50 years ago, plays an extremely important and proactive role in this respect. If you are not already a member, we urge you to become one without delay.

"Communities must take interest in their local affairs because if they do not, they could end up being governed by people who have no interest in their welfare."
Thabo Mokwena, former CEO of SALGA (South African Local Goverment Association)

This web site aims to inform residents and businesses about the area, where to obtain help and information, community services and news on issues and developments that affect us all.

Current issue, June 2010

There are two applications for 2 bottle stores opposite one another on the cnr of Lancaster & Clarence Avenues. With eleven other liquor outlets within a 1km radius this is not a welcome development. The CRA invites all residents not in favour to urgently sign a petition form.

We need you!

The Environmental portfolio is vacant and we need someone to manage it. It encompasses the river area, the open spaces in the suburbs and matters such as recycling. Community Affairs also needs help - this includes liaison with schools etc, arranging community events, Domestic Watch and so on. Contact CRA Chairperson Ryan Roseveare or Wendy McAllister for more information.

The Public Spaces Security – PSS – scheme.

Crime remains an unfortunate reality in South Africa today. While our suburbs are not immune from this curse, there many things that we, as a community, can do to reduce crime in our area. However, statistics indicate that intelligent proactive protection of our public spaces is right now one of the most effective forms of crime prevention and there is no doubt that CSS Tactical is doing a great job for us - but we urgently need more residents to join for the full protection plan to be implemented.

The CRA therefore urges residents who have not yet signed up for the PSS Scheme to do so without delay.

If you wish to report an incident to the CRA Security exec, complete the on-line "crime incident" form

As with all CRA activities, this website has been developed by volunteers living in the area. We look forward to your contributions and suggestions. Contact Communications Portfolio holder, Wendy McAllister
