An area rich in bird life
The list of birds, all seen in the vicinity of the Delta Park and the spruit area of Craighall/Craighall Park, has been submitted by resident Alex Zaloumis. If anyone can add to the list, contacted Chris Taylor. As a sighting is verified, we'll add it to the list (see note below).
According to Robert's, of the 890 birds found in southern Africa, some 360 species are found in the greater Johannesburg area. The CRA list currently contains about 118 different species in our area alone.
An invitation to be on our panel
The Delta Park Environmental Centre reports that more than 200 different species have been sighted in this part of Johannesburg . Sightings should ideally be confirmed by at least 3 people before we add them to the existing list. Residents with ornithological knowledge are invited to contact Chris with a view to assisting with verification of people's observations.
You are also welcome to submit a photo if you are unsure of the name of the bird depicted.
Heron sighted at the Craighall waterfall
This could become a really interesting project and, as always, comments and suggestions would be welcome. You can contact Alex or any one of the CRA environmental portfolio holders.
