Message from Cllr Judy Stockill - 12th July 2004
Well done, CRA! More strength to your elbow.
The residents of Craighall and Craighall Park are well served by the CRA. Your residents association is actively and successfully addressing crime and grime in your suburbs. It is not a once-off, quick fix action. It is a relentless slog. Crime and grime are the symptoms of the wider problems. Job creation, affordable accommodation and by-law enforcement are a few of the issues that need to be addressed in a sustainable manner. Sustainability was the 'theme' of the WSSD 2002. It means that we - you and I - must accept the responsibility of managing our own environment in a manner that does not consume excessive resources.
Rates and taxes - money is an easy to account for resource - paid by you must provided services for all Joburg citizens. The City of Johannesburg has to spend its budget to meet its constitutional obligation to deliver an environment that is not harmful to the health or well-being of its citizens and citizens are expected to do more than pay. The City expects their help. You can start helping by joining and actively supporting the Craigpark Residents Association.
