CRA Newsletter
December 2004
Dear Residents,
As the year rushes to a close this will be our last monthly
electronic letter until January 2005. We hope you have found these
letters informative as we try and keep you in the picture with whatıs
going on in your suburbs.
Security
An Extraordinary Meeting to resolve the future of the CPF in the
Parkview police precinct was held on Tuesday, November 23rd. This
was a serious issue. Unfortunately, there was a pretty average
turnout to deal with such an important subject. The meeting was
chaired by the Area Head of the CPF and itıs objective was to
recruit a new Executive for the Parkview CPF with nominations from
the Parkview precinct area.
The CPF is an important link between the police station itself and
the residents of the various suburbs through their residents
associations. Over the past few years the Parkview CPF, under the
leadership of Fran Haslam, has been a proactive and efficient
organisation and has cooperated closely with the objectives of the
CraigPark Residents Association. We would like to thank her and her
committee for the amount of work they put in to assist the station
under Superintendent Ian Loubser. Their resignation comes at a time
when the crime situation is reducing somewhat but Parkview is still
confronted with major issues which need to be resolved. As said to
you before, these crime issues continue to be housebreaking and car
theft amongst others.
It was important therefore that a new committee needed to be created
urgently so that the new body could carry on with the good work
which has gone on before it. The meeting saw eight people from the
various suburbs in the precinct volunteer to serve on the CPF and
this comes into play with immediate effect. The new committee will
appoint a Chairperson. Who this is will be advised in the near
future. We are pleased that for the moment most issues have been
resolved and it is now up to the new CPF committee to come to grips
with any problems which need to be resolved at the Parkview police
station.
Domestic Watch
As you know, we have been holding Domestic Watch meetings in
both Craighall and Craighall Park on a monthly basis in recent
years. These meetings were successful in terms of bringing the
domestics in our community into the main stream of our suburban
security activities. In recent times attendance has been falling off
slightly and we need to resuscitate our original objectives with
some new ideas. Accordingly, Margaret Stewart (Craighall Park) and
Amy Allan (Craighall) together with our Chairman have set up a new
programme for 2005. Essentially, the new domestic meetings will be
held on a quarterly basis and will widen the scope of the
presentations to create a wider interest.
As an example, the first meeting will be held at the end of January
2005 and the subject will be various banking and financial issues
that our domestics are confronted with in this age of electronic and
mechanised banking. This will include a further insight for them (in
their own language) such as the new bank accounts that have been set
up for people who had been previously kept out of the banking loop.
The name of the project will change from Domestic Watch and you will
be advised as to what this will be early next year. Security will
continue to be on the agenda as this is an important link between
our communities and the police.
General
Lastly, weıd like to apologise for a couple of gremlins which
crept into the latest Crier currently on its way to you. The serious
one is that the annual subscription account on the back page refers
to 2004 and should be 2005!. Our street reps are trying to
change this but inevitably some of it will escape through the net.
Once again our apologies. This document is obviously very important
to the CRA for continuity of cash flow so I guess we must accept
that the Christmas spirit got a-hold on us a little too early!
Once again, we wish you and your family and domestics Happy and
safe holidays and look forward to further discussions and
activity in 2005.
Best regards
The CRA Executive Committee
