Security

1.         The CRA police vehicle (PV18) incurred an accident the night of the big storm a few weeks ago and had to go to the government garage for repairs. During that period of time Parkview Police replaced PV18 with other vehicles on a permanent basis which allowed us the cover that they had promised. I'm pleased to say that PV18 is back on the road again on a permanent basis in Craighall Park, Craighall and Hurlingham. For the moment at least the crime situation in the two suburbs has been comparatively quiet may it continue.

2.         You may have seen in the press that Superintendent Ian Loubser who is currently working in an area position (responsible to seven police stations including Parkview) and has put together a special unit throughout these precincts to concentrate on major crimes. Most of his people do not wear uniforms but in fact need jackets appropriately marked to carry various paraphernalia that they need. The CRA has contributed the required jackets at a cost of R6000 and there will be an appropriate press release covering this donation. The unit is meeting with a great deal of success may that continue as well.

3.         It has been brought to my attention that there are two conmen operating in the Craighall/ Craighall Park area (amongst others).
The first is a person who makes contact with anyone advertising their home for rental or sale he then turns up well-dressed and usually driving a multi-coloured Volkswagen (although he could change cars). He makes contact with the owner of the home and then asks if he could look around, then says that he will "think about it". On taking him out to his car he then asks if he can go back in as he has left something behind at which time if left alone he picks up cell phones and other small valuable items.
The second person will ring your doorbell (also well dressed) and say that he lives a couple of blocks away and his car is broken down. He says he is desperate to get to the hospital as he's epileptic and just had a fit and asks if you wouldn't mind lending him R50 or R100 to get a taxi there and back which he will return. Unfortunately some of our people have fallen for this. Just watch out. Hešs a very plausible person.

Domestic Watch
The new look Domestic meetings for 2005 will commence on Thursday, the 24th of February. This is for both Craighall and Craighall Park Domestics. The project is now carrying a wider flavour from those of last year including such things as banking practices (how to use the new inexpensive banking accounts, etc) and will be done on a quarterly basis and will also include security subjects. The two people concerned, Margaret Stewart (880 3277) and Amy Allan will be advising you through fliers before the meeting as to some of the detail. Please contact Margaret if you have any questions. The Wesleyan Church in Craighall Park will be the venue.

ALERT ALERT ALERT

You will find attached to this electronic letter a questionnaire which is a survey of Craighall and Craighall Park residents organised by the CRA. It takes about five minutes to complete and if you have any questions please contact Lee Whitfield who heads up our Town Planning portfolio on (011) 788 9086. The document is self-explanatory. This is an important exercise for all residents for as you are aware circumstances have changed dramatically in the property market in our two suburbs.
