meeting reminder – Public Space Security Wednesday 25th
June at 18:00 at Craighall Primary School We
hope that you received a notice on your gate advising you of a special
meeting called to inform you about the PSS initiative. There have been
more crimes reported this month than for some time and there is a sense of
urgency about moving to an effective
protection plan for our streets and public spaces that is supported by the
majority of our community. You
should also have received a hand-delivered copy of the June 2008 Crier. If not, it’s on our website - http://www.cra.org.za/crier.htm. CSS Tactical will give a presentation and overview of their
‘neighbourhood safety’ proposal plus answer any questions you may
have. This is your opportunity to find out more about the PSS Scheme. Notes: ·
ADT is our
current provider through the
existing CRA Community Security Scheme (and is apparently now actively
marketing this – something we had asked for months ago but were not
aware was being implemented only now). ·
It was the
CRA-appointed City Improvement District (CID) Steering Committee that
decided, after evaluation and recommendations, that CSS Tactical would be
the preferred provider for PSS when a CID is, we hope, established.
However, given the very real concerns about crime in our suburbs, a
significant number of the community wanted to go the CSS Tactical route
sooner than later. Canvassing had already started prior to the CRA
endorsement of the CSS Tactical option. ·
The matter
was discussed at the CRA Executive meeting held at the beginning of June
and the majority of the CRA executive approved the support for and
introduction of the CSS Tactical Scheme, noting that its
implementation depended on the level of support. ·
This PSS
initiative is quite separate to whoever you use for your armed response
company. CSS Tactical is offering armed response as well, but you need to
contact them direct and make your own arrangements. [CSS – 0861 911 119]
·
Most
current subscribers to the existing Community Security Scheme have been
informed of the decision taken by the CRA Executive and do not need to do
anything at this stage. [ADT – 086 12 12 400] For

(Recruitment for CSS Tactical) Notices ** Domestic Watch Penny
Steyn reports, “Craighall/Craighall Park has turned into a resounding
success and the commitment from the residents is quite awesome.” She
also informs us that there is a “Spread
the Word Campaign” and any domestic who is able to bring two or more
other domestics will receive a R50 gift voucher, compliments of Nando’s. Next meeting Friday 27th June at the Wesleyan Church at
12:00, cnr
Norfolk & Beaufort Avenues. For
information contact Kerryn Lawson - kerrynl@meropa.co.za. ** Survey forms for proposed City Improvement District - CID The
date for completing the survey form has been extended until further
notice. It’s available on-line www.cra.org.za/questionnaire_Mar08.htm.
Your
opinions and improvement ideas will form the basis of a business plan, so
please make every effort to send yours through. Thanks. ** 2008 subscriptions A
2008 subs form has been included in the Crier
and is also downloadable at http://www.cra.org.za/cra_subscription.htm.
At less than R20 a month, that’s good
value!
Resident Kathy Raeburn (who is also involved in the Craighall
Park Tennis Club) writes that her daughter, a pupil at Blairgowrie
Primary School, is involved in a fundraising drive. They are selling
sticky labels for the big black dustbins at R35 a label. The label, extremely durable and waterproof, has room for the number and the
street on it printed
on a silver or gold background. To place your order and support a worthy
cause, contact Kathy before 14 July at kraeburn@planetpastel.com. **
Vegetable gardens for the homeless Pam
Fletcher writes: “We are trying to get a committee together to spearhead
a project to start the growing of vegetable gardens by the homeless in the
Parktown North area. Contact Pam if you can help - (011) 787 6430 or 072
