assistance

The CRA portfolios currently comprise Environment, Membership/ Community Affairs, Safety and Security, Town planning and development, Traffic, Communications and PR and the statutory positions of Chairman, Secretary and Treasurer.

While your first port of call may well be the City's Help Line (011 375-5555), the CRA executive members can assist you if action isn't taken, or advise you of who best to contact or follow up on your behalf. 

Revolving chairmanship 

Note: as at 15 May 2007 John Turpin stepped down. Until a new chairman is found, the chair is circulating between exec members. For December it is Roly Meyer.

1. Environment

Paulette Malcolm and Chris Taylor handle this portfolio. Contact them for any matter related to the riverine areas that exist in our suburbs.

2. Membership and Community Affairs
This portfolio is handled by Harry Rosen, assisted by Jill Weldon. If you have any queries about membership Harry will be delighted to hear from you. If you are new to the area, welcome! Harry will give you information about the CRA.

Community Affairs - responsibilities include developing and overseeing special functions for residents (street parties, community braais, etc), promotions, the AGM, coordination of regional reps and street wardens, and distribution of the CRA's quarterly information sheet, the Crier, and special notices – anything to do with fostering neighbourly relations!

3. Security
Activity within this portfolio includes -

Anti-crime projects; liaison with Parkview Police, the CPF, security companies and Business against Crime; road closures. In addition, if you have been a victim of crime, the CRA in conjunction with the Parkview CPF is there to provide you with support.

Your contacts are Richard King, Mike Wilmot, Philip Bond, Eric Glover. Street lights are important in the fight against crime - if you notice street lights out of order, contact the City's help line (011 375-5555). If repairs are not done promptly, contact Blyth Thompson or Ward Councillor Ian Ollis - ianollis@lantic.net.

The CRA also supports the Community Policing Forum (CPF) which is chaired by Richard Dancer. For more information contact Richard or Philip.

4. Traffic
This includes liaison with Johannesburg Roads Agency, road closures, road signs and road markings, illegal parking, speed humps, road usage including taxis.

5. Communications, PR and CRA records
Activity here includes media liaison, particularly with the Rosebank Gazette and Sunday Times Metro; the production of the Crier on a quarterly basis; monthly electronic newsletter for members; and ongoing development and maintenance of the CRA's website.

6. Town Planning & Development
Matters dealt with in this portfolio include -

  • Approval/ objection of building developments in the community 
  • Tracking of LDO & rezoning (applications) 
  • Liaison with City town planning 
  • Property Rating Bill 
  • Abandoned properties 

Lee Whitfield heads up the portfolio, assisted by Roly Meyer and Bianca de Roland Phillips

7. Treasurer
Kendall Rattey holds this portfolio. For queries re CRA members annual subscriptions, contact Kendall. To pay the annual membership fee you may wish to download a subscription form.

8. Secretary / co-ordinator 
Sarah James holds this position.
