Local businesses form a vital part of our amazing community and in the wake of Covid-19, lockdown and the uncertainty they have caused, we would like to encourage residents to support our local businesses whenever possible.

The success of businesses in an area has a major impact on the overall vibe. We all know the feeling one gets when walking through a centre where many of the shops are empty and closed…

We are lucky enough to have great local businesses, from big companies to small home businesses, and many have had a tough financial year. If we all support our business community we can achieve great things together so please,

A write up about a business that goes the extra mile in support of our community or the CRA.

The Local Choice Pharmacy Colony

The Local Choice Pharmacy Colony, more often referred to as just the Colony Pharmacy, is truly a community-orientated business that is prepared to go the extra mile.

They have over the past year participated in two CRA Covid-19 initiatives, including the e’Pap initiative, by providing goods at discounted rates as well as assisting us by being a collection point. They don’t only assist the CRA but also provided a large number of vitamins free of charge to the Parkview Community Police Forum for their Covid-19 Relief Drive.

They often go out of their way to assist individuals within the community and volunteer their time to participate in a community health working group with members of the CRA committee. Before Covid-19 hit they were in the process of collaborating with the Provincial Clinics and Hospitals to be able to obtain monthly medicine packs for patients. This would have saved such patients from long queues and crowds at their usual facilities and the need to take a day off from work.  Unfortunately, due to the escalation of the COVID pandemic the service has been put on hold at present but is still a possibility for the future. This shows their willingness to assist our community and we will let you know if or when it is up and running.

The Colony Pharmacy, in association with Medical Aids, does currently offer a service whereby you can obtain your chronic and acute medication easily and safely using an app. By registering you could receive notifications, by SMS, when your next prescription is due or needs to be renewed and then be collected without long queues or delivered directly to you.  Using an app, new prescriptions can be scanned on your phone and sent directly to the pharmacy. Your Medical Aid will be automatically debited and as they have been registered as a DSP (Designated Service Provider) by many Medical Aids you may not even have to deal with any co-payments. In addition

their clinic offers a variety of services from diabetic care and dietary advice to medical aid assessments as well as a baby clinic for immunisations, advice and development assessments.

Chilli & Spice Indian Takeaway

Chilli & Spice has been providing us with delicious food for the last 8 years – their butter chicken is one of the few things my fussy 9 year old daughter eats and is her favourite!

Run by Matthew Thaver, a Craighall Park resident for the last 34 years, it started out as Red Chilli & Spice in the Colony and moved a year and a half ago to the Willow Centre on the corner of Jan Smuts and Buckingham Ave.

Their online and app ordering allows you to remain safe at home and have your food delivered straight to your door (min R100 order). Matthew himself is doing the deliveries to ensure all Covid protocols are followed. There are also vegan dishes available along with egg and dairy free naans and rotis.
